Course Description
This course was originally created by Esukhia and has been frequently updated and iterated. The A1 Tibetan course helps beginners build confidence using simple everyday language. Students learn essential vocabulary and basic grammar to communicate in familiar situations such as personal details, family, daily routines, time, numbers, and common questions. Through short dialogues, controlled practice, and real-life examples, learners improve their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills and prepare to progress to A2 level. Relevant CEFR A1 Can-Do Statements: 1. Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions. 2. Can introduce themselves and ask/answer simple questions about personal details. 3. Can interact in a simple way if the other person speaks slowly and clearly. 4. Can read and understand very short, simple texts. 5. Can write short phrases and simple sentences.
Course Overview
The A1 Tibetan course introduces learners to simple everyday communication. Students build essential vocabulary, practice basic sentence structures, and learn to understand short, clear speech in familiar situations. The course develops foundational listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills needed for basic daily interaction and prepares learners to move toward A2 level.

Rinchen Dolma is from Shillong and holds a B.A. in Tibetan Studies from the College for Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarah. She possesses over five years of dedicated experience teaching Tibetan as a second language to students at the foundational levels (A0 – A2+). Her teaching focuses on building a strong command across all four language skills—reading, listening, writing, and speaking—through a practical application approach that is carefully tailored to each student’s specific needs. Her primary goal is to foster confidence in using Tibetan.

Kunga Choeyang holds a Bachelor’s degree in Tibetan Studies from the College for Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarah. A native Tibetan speaker fluent in English, she has extensive experience teaching students at the A0 – A2+ level through the Sarah Online School. She is passionate about guiding learners to discover the richness of Tibetan language and culture and believes that “behind every great student is a special teacher.

Chime Choedron holds a Bachelor of Arts in Tibetan Language and Buddhist Philosophy from the College for Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarah. With over five years of experience, she teaches Tibetan bilingually (Tibetan/English) to international students at the Beginner (A1), Foundation (A2), and Intermediate (A2+) levels, along with instruction in Buddhist Philosophy. She believes that “teaching is not just about talking; it’s about sharing.
