Sarah College

The College for Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarah is an advanced Tibetan studies college founded in 1991 by the late Gen Lobsang Gyatso la under the guidance of and with funding provided by the 14th Dalai Lama. The College is a branch of Institute of Buddhist Dialectics (IBD) based in McLeod Ganj, Dharamshala, India.

Jampa Kalsang was born in Chukhams Village, Kardze, Kham. In 1992, he came to India and joined the Sera Je Monastery. He successfully completed the curriculum and examinations of the monastery and the Geluk School of Buddhist Logic, ultimately earning the Geshe Lharampa degree in 2013. In 2014, he undertook studies in Tantra at Gyuto Monastery (Lower Tantric College). From 2017 to 2021, under the arrangement of the Gaden Phodrang, he pursued English language studies for four years at the Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education in Bangalore. From 2021 to the present (2025), he has been teaching a wide range of Tibetan as a second language to learners at the Esukhia and Sarah Online School, instructing students from A0 to C1 levels. He offers instruction combining traditional and modern approaches.

Lobsang Dawa profile picture

Lobsang Dawa is from Lithang, Kham. In 2019, he successfully completed the entire Great Gelug Examination of the Geluk school of Tibetan Buddhism. Subsequently, in 2023, he graduated with a Master of Buddhist Studies (M.A.) degree from the Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education in Bangalore. After completing over six months of teacher training at Esukhia starting in October 2023, he gained over two years of experience teaching Tibetan to second language learners. He currently serves as an online teacher at the College of Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarah, specializing in teaching Tibetan language and Buddhist philosophy to students at the A0 – C1 level.
